Ambohimalaza: A Dirty Business
The Bold and the Beautiful

Huh? Oh yeah, it’s really a dirty business. With all the ingredients of an African-style novella, with crime, hatred, passion, a village sorcerer, and poison.

What bothers me a little more, on a very personal level, is that from now on, the name of the village I come from will be forever associated with this infamy 😳

But hey, I know, there are worse things, like the 22 deaths at the time of writing this column… and many are still in intensive care, their lives hanging by a thread. And even if they make it, we dare not imagine the after-effects.

The investigation is ongoing and despite the supposed secrecy surrounding it, a week after the events, we still know a little more through a few details that have leaked, whether on purpose or not.

So? And so, two women, one of whom is said to be the sister-in-law of the birthday girl and the other the cousin, are believed to be the perpetrators of this horrific crime.

They allegedly called on the services of an “ombiasy,” a sorcerer who provided them with the powerful poison. The poison was then sprayed on food, including the famous donuts.

Moreover, new information has emerged in the last few hours: many people were surprised by the silence of the birthday girl. There was also a rumor that she hadn’t eaten anything during her party, which was highly suspicious.

Well, she would have an excellent reason to remain silent since, at the time we speak, she is reportedly among those still in intensive care, thus between life and death.

Another piece of information that also emerged very early on was that the sister-in-law in question is said to be the partner of a famous football player.

Said football player, Rakool, who subsequently released a video, the purpose of which is unclear. It seems more like he’s requesting intervention from higher ups to get his wife out of prison?

Uh, no, I don’t think she’s likely to be released anytime soon, given the seriousness of the events. 22 deaths, that’s at least 22 times life imprisonment, right?

And there’s no point whining on Facebook: either the accused is guilty or she isn’t. It’s binary. So instead of whining on social media, it would be more appropriate to properly prepare your defense, right? And by the way, a quick question: if Rakool’s wife is the sister-in-law of the woman who was celebrating his birthday… would she then be the footballer’s sister?

Unfortunately, we’re also very familiar with the endemic judicial system. A system in which we can have absolutely no trust and which only operates at the highest bidder… and even then.

But public opinion wants the truth about the ins and outs of this case. And above all, it wants the heads, whoever they may be, of all those involved in this horribly despicable crime. In the United States, it would be straight to death row for the guilty, wouldn’t it? With 22 deaths (to date), that would be the minimum indeed. A case to follow closely.
